Montgomery mayor Marilyn Michelini to serve on national board Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning board member will represent northeastern Illinois on the board of the National Association of Regional Councils CHICAGO, March 28, 2007 -- Mayor Marilyn Michelini, village president of Montgomery, Illinois, and board member of the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning, has been appointed as an at-large representative on the board of the National Association of Regional Councils (NARC). A non-profit organization based in Washington, DC, NARC is a leading advocate for regional organizations and solutions that positively impact American communities -- large and small, urban and rural. “We are honored to welcome Mayor Michelini, who brings over two decades of public service and hands-on experience with inter-governmental cooperation," said Judge John Thompson, NARC President. "Her credentials embody what NARC and its members advocate and practice. We are certain that her involvement will benefit the Association, its member regional councils and the communities they serve." Having served in local government since 1982, Mayor Michelini believes in the power of inter-governmental cooperation – a necessity due to the fact that Montgomery spans two counties. While most villages must work cooperatively with fewer than five other governmental entities, Montgomery must work with 24. These include five fire protection districts, five school districts, three park districts, two library districts, two counties, four townships, one water reclamation district, a drainage district and a water authority. Mayor Michelini began her government service in 1982 when she agreed to complete the remaining 2 ˝-year term of a retiring member of the Kane County Board. In 1987, she was first elected to the Board of Trustees for the Village of Montgomery. She served until April 2001, when she was elected Village President, a position she still holds today. To integrate planning for transportation and land use, CMAP has been created by merging the staffs of the Chicago Area Transportation Study (CATS) and the Northeastern Illinois Planning Commission (NIPC). CMAP serves the counties of Cook, DuPage, Kane, Kendall, Lake, McHenry, and Will. See www.chicagoareaplanning.org for more information.
